Wanpaku – Greenpoint – Brooklyn, New York, NY

This place was such a lovely blind stab at the available happy hours on a Friday night with perhaps an hour and a half to spare after the usual drive up and across the city – and it did NOT disappoint at all!

Very cozy atmosphere and a nicely tailored selection of specials for little bites to go along with various hi-balls and sake made this place just right – a hint of privacy and social sitting next to other sets of patrons as the night rolled on.

Drinks were solid, for how liquid they are in their nature, and it was refreshing to see hi-balls listed – both classic and flavored, as Japan would typically do. And the appetizers offered this night definitely among my favorites – mackerel sashimi and fried yellowtail jaw (はまちのカマ) besides the drinking snack classic of takoyaki.

Did I mention reusable, metal straws? Awesome touch!

Overall, lovely place with great happy hour and otherwise very reasonable prices for Greenpoint on a Friday night when you want something better than your typical bar grub.
